SAQA uses a credit system based on the idea that one credit equals 10 notional hours of learning, motivated in context in each case.
‘Notional hours of learning’ refers to the learning time that it would take an average learner to meet the outcomes defined. It includes concepts such
- • contact time
• time spent in structured learning in the workplace
• individual learning
-1 Credit x 10 (calculation) become 10 notional hours.
-OBE required all learning to be 30% theoretical and 70% practical.
-30% of 10 notional hours must be theoretical learning.
-70% of 10 notional hours must be practical (workplace experience)
